THOUSAND OAKS, California – The 2022 season briefly got off to a promising start, but the Puget Sound baseball team ultimately lost the season-opener at Cal Lutheran, 12-1, Friday afternoon.
Â
Kyle Strash led off the top of the first inning with a double down the right-field line. He then moved to third on a groundout by
Makana Murashige, and came in to score when
Jacob Ota reached base on an error by the third baseman.
Â
Trailing 5-1 in the fifth inning, the Loggers (0-1) threatened to score against when
Clayton Waltz and Strash hit consecutive one-out singles. However, the next two Loggers were retired without harm to the Kingsmen (1-0).
Â
The Loggers remain in southern California for a doubleheader at Whittier Saturday, Feb. 5, starting at 10:30 a.m.
