PORTLAND, Oregon – Kennedy Brown matched her career-high in scoring to lead the No. 21 Puget Sound women's basketball team to a 69-66 win at Lewis & Clark Friday night.
Â
Brown scored 23 points by shooting 8-for-17 from the floor. Her defensive efforts resulted in five steals.
Katie Minnehan matched those five steals, and she finished with a team-high nine rebounds.
Addison Reardon added 13 points for the Loggers (16-3, 9-2 NWC).
Â
Puget Sound overcame a sizeable deficit on the boards, 46-33, by forcing the Pioneers (10-11, 5-7 NWC) into 26 turnovers.
Â
Lewis & Clark flexed its strength on the glass in the final minute of the game. Puget Sound held a 68-66 lead when the Pioneers came up with four consecutive offensive rebounds. The fifth missed shot of the possession resulted in a loose-ball foul against Lewis & Clark.
Â
Brown went to the free-throw line for two shots. She made the first, giving the Loggers a three-point edge, but the door remained opened when Lewis & Clark grabbed the miss on the second attempt, and the Pioneers called timeout with 1.5 seconds left.
Â
Coming out of the timeout, the Pioneers got off a 3-point attempt at the buzzer, but the potential game-tying shot clanged off the rim.
Â
The Loggers remain in Oregon to take on Willamette Saturday, Feb. 5, at 4 p.m.
