TACOMA, Washington –
Jessica Moore came away with two hits – including a walk-off single – to give the Puget Sound softball team to a 3-2 victory against Lewis & Clark Saturday afternoon.
Puget Sound (3-13, 3-5 NWC) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning thanks to an RBI single by
Mikayla Newman. Emma Kessler led off the inning by reaching base on an error, and
Hana DeGuzman followed with a single. Two batters later, Newman delivered the first run of the game.
The Loggers pushed their lead to 2-0 when
Hope Fleischman scored on an error after ripping a double.
The Pioneers tied the game, 2-2, in the top of the seventh inning.
Newman led off the home half of the seventh inning by reaching base on an error, and she sprinted to third base on a single by
Kelsie Sullivan. From there, Moore came through with the heroic hit.
Savanna Smith earned the win in the circle. She threw complete game, striking out seven and allowing only four hits.
The Loggers lost the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, 4-0. Sullivan hit a double, and
Maddy Garcia struck out six during her seven innings in the circle.
Puget Sound and Lewis & Clark have another doubleheader Sunday, March 13, starting at 11 a.m.
