Sullivan hurls complete-game shutout against Lewis & Clark

TACOMA, Washington – Kelsie Sullivan blanked Lewis & Clark for a complete-game shutout in the Loggers' 7-0 win over the Pioneers Sunday afternoon. Puget Sound lost the second game of the doubleheader, 4-3, in eight innings.

Puget Sound 7, Lewis & Clark 0
Sullivan allowed only three hits and struck out four to earn her first win of the season. She retired eight of the first nine batters she faced, and the Pioneers didn't get their first hit of the game until the fourth inning.

Puget Sound rallied for four runs in the second inning, and that was more than enough for Sullivan. She helped her own cause by drawing a leadoff walk, and Jessica Moore followed with a double.

With runners on second and third, Natalie Wilson ripped a two-run double for the first runs of the game. Later in the inning, Hana DeGuzman hit a two-run single.

Moore's bat stayed hot in the third inning when she hit a solo home run. In the fifth inning, Mikayla Newman hit a solo home run, and Hope Fleischman smacked an RBI single.

Puget Sound 3, Lewis & Clark 4 (8 inn.)
The Loggers entered the bottom of the third inning in a 3-0 hole, but Emma Kessler led off by reaching base on an error, and she later came in to score on a single hit by Mikayla Newman.

The following inning began with a double by Kelsie Sullivan and a single by Jessica Moore. Natalie Wilson walked to load the bases, and Hope Fleischman hit a single to score Sullivan. Hana DeGuzman then hit into a fielder's choice that allowed Moore to score.

The game remained tied, 3-3, through the following innings until Lewis & Clark put a run on the board in the first extra inning.

Savanna Smith pitched all eight innings for the Loggers, allowing only three earned runs and striking out seven.

The Loggers' next conference series is at Whitworth, March 19-20.
