TACOMA, Washington – Savanna Smith hit her first home run of the season, and
Kelsie Sullivan was one pitch away from her second complete-game shutout of the year, but the Puget Sound softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against George Fox at Logger Field Sunday afternoon.

Puget Sound 3, George Fox 4
The Loggers broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning, but the Bruins rallied for a four-run seventh inning to win.

Lauren Rice led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a walk, and she moved into scoring position on a passed ball.
Hope Fleischman followed with a shallow double that allowed Rice to move up one base.
Hana DeGuzman stepped up to the plate with two outs, and she ripped a double to clear the bases.

Kelsie Sullivan had allowed only four hits entering the seventh inning, all of which were singles. However, George Fox loaded the bases with two outs thanks to a hit-by-pitch, an error, and a single. On an 0-2 count, George Fox hit a grand slam to take a 4-2 lead.

The Loggers threatened to at least tie the game in the bottom of the seventh. Rice led off by reaching base on an error. A second miscue by the Bruins allowed Rice to come in to score, but the Loggers were unable to plate the game-tying run.

Sullivan did not allow an earned run in her seven innings in the circle, and she struck out eight. She lowered her season ERA to 4.36.

The Bruins held a 5-0 entering the sixth inning, but the Loggers put together a comeback bid.

Kelsie Sullivan hit a one-out single in the sixth. Smith – the very next batter – belted a two-run homer over the centerfield fence.

The Loggers loaded the bases in the seventh inning, still down by three.
Abbi Wong and
Emily Moore led off the inning with consecutive singles, and
Hana DeGuzman drew a one-out walk. A fielder's choice allowed Wong to score, but the game ended with a deep flyout to centerfield.

The Loggers are back home next week to host Pacific, April 2-3.
