SPOKANE, Washington – The Puget Sound baseball team sealed a Northwest Conference series win at Whitworth Sunday. The Loggers improved to 10-10 in the NWC, which is just one game out from the No. 4 (and final) seed for the NWC Tournament.

Freshman
Aidan Sullivan hit his first-career home run,
Makana Murashige homered for the third time this season, but the Pirates won a 16-inning marathon that started Saturday and finished Sunday. The game was suspended after 13 innings due to darkness Saturday evening.

The Loggers were in a 4-1 hole through two innings, but they tied it up in the third.
Dylan Joyce and
Kyle Strash both hit singles, and Murashige cleared the bases with a home run.

Sullivan broke a 9-9 tie with a solo home run in the sixth inning, but the Pirates answered back with a run in the seventh.

The Loggers used six pitchers in the game. The final three – Joyce,
Henry Baker, and
William Gross – combined to allow just one run through 10.1 innings.

Despite the long and high-scoring game, Joyce was the only Logger to finish with multiple hits. He finished 3-for-6 at the plate.

Puget Sound 12, Whitworth 5
Freshman
Brett Harvey won his second game of the season by throwing 7.2 innings as the starter in the third game of the series. He struck out six and allowed just four hits and three walks.

Jackson Bolitho got the scoring started with a two-run single in the first inning. Jacoba Ota hit an RBI single in the second, and
Makana Murashige added an RBI double in the third.

By the middle of the seventh inning, Puget Sound held an 8-0 lead. The Loggers added four mor runs in the ninth inning, two of which came in on a base-hit by
Shane Himeda.

Joyce added another three hits to his 2022 resume, and
Jonas Kim went 3-for-5 in the game.

The Loggers host Whitman for a conference series, April 16-17.
