TACOMA, Washington – Abby Stranahan scored a career-high seven goals, but the Puget Sound lacrosse team lost to Whitman, 23-18, in Baker Stadium Sunday afternoon. It was the Loggers' final home game of the season.
Â
Stranahan scored Puget Sound's first two goals of the game, and she added three more goals in the second quarter. After a 6-6 tie\ through the first 15 minutes of the game, Whitman took a 7-6 lead less than 30 seconds into the second quarter.
Â
However, Stranahan evened up the score just one minute later. After
Beatrice Bridge earned the ensuing draw control, Stranahan drew a foul on the Blues. Her shot off the free-position attempt was saved, but she quickly scooped up the loose ball and scored to give the Loggers an 8-7 lead.
Â
Undeterred, the Blues went on a 5-0 run and took a 13-9 lead into halftime.
Â
Whitman led for the entire second half, but Puget Sound never gave up the fight. Late in the third quarter, Puget Sound scored three goals in a 30-second span.
Lauren Mastin scored off a pass from
Hayden Hotchkiss, cutting Whitman's lead to 15-10.
Â
Hotchkiss then won the following draw control, sprinted down the middle of the field, and found Stranahan open to beat the goalkeeper.
Â
In a case of
deja vu, Hotchkiss won the ensuing draw control, sprinted down the field, and hit Stranahan with a pass to score again.Â
Hotchkiss finished the game with a goal and three assists.
Beatrice Bridge and
Emily LaRiviere each scored four goals.Â
Â
The Loggers are on the road next week to take on Pacific (April 23) and Willamette (April 24).
