THOUSAND OAKS, California – Silas Washington ran for 142 yards and three touchdowns, but the Puget Sound football team lost at Cal Lutheran, 35-27, Saturday.

Dating back to the 2021 season, Washington has rushed for at least 100 yards in five of his last six games. He began the 2022 season with a 108-yard effort in a non-conference game at Lewis & Clark.

The Kingsmen took a 7-0 lead just two minutes into Saturday's game. The Loggers' ensuing drive lasted more than seven minutes, and it ended with a nine-yard touchdown rush by Washington. The drive included a crucial 4
th-and-two conversion from the Cal Lutheran 49-yard line, as Washington ran for eight yards to keep the drive alive.

The Kingsmen answered right back by scoring on a 75
-yard touchdown run to reclaim the lead. Puget Sound didn't reach the end zone again until the middle of the second quarter. The Loggers put together a 10-play, 83-yard drive that resulted in Washington's second touchdown.

The Kingsmen appeared poised to take a significant lead into halftime when they connected for a 60-yard touchdown pass with two minutes left in the second quarter. However, the Loggers moved the ball quickly and efficiently to end the half.

Mason Binning connected with Washington for a nine-yard passing play, then Binning hit
Trevino Lewis Jr. for 17 more yards. Binning hit
Izaiah Jerenz up the middle for a 16-yard completion down to the Cal Lutheran eight-yard line, and it was the Binning-to-Jerenz connection that ended the drive with a touchdown.

Cal Lutheran took a 21-19 lead into halftime, and it kept the Loggers off the scoreboard in the third quarter.

Washington scored his third touchdown from two yards out with two minutes left in the game.

Jerenz finished the game with five receptions – the same as
Joe Gallagher. Jerenz totaled 50 receiving yards, and Gallagher finished with 60.
