Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Puget Sound volleyball sweeps Whitworth for first time in 10 years

TACOMA, Washington – For the first time in 10 years, the Puget Sound volleyball team beat Whitworth in three consecutive sets Saturday evening in Memorial Fieldhouse. What's more, the Pirates are the defending Northwest Conference champions after going undefeated in conference action last year.

The Loggers were in total control Saturday. Puget Sound never trailed in the first set. Whitworth held an early lead in the second set, 4-1, but the Loggers went on an astounding 14-1 run to take a 15-5 lead.

Whitworth showed a little more life in the third set when it had a 13-8 lead, but that's when Puget Sound went on an 11-1 run to take a 19-14 lead. Sarah Johnsen had three kills during the run.

Avery Allemann finished with a match-high 10 kills, and Logan Winn led all players in assists with 24. Akira Anderson and Chloe Akiona-Bannan both finished with 10 digs.

The Loggers limited the Pirates to a .139 attack percentage, while Puget Sound hit at a .211 clip.

Puget Sound travels to George Fox (Sept. 23) and Pacific (Sept. 24) next week.
