PORTLAND, Oregon – The Northwest Conference's reigning rushing king scored twice, but the Puget Sound football team lost the first-ever
Northwest Scholars Series game at Lewis & Clark, 41-15, Saturday afternoon.
Â
The Loggers (0-1) were in a 17-0 hole when
Silas Washington broke free for a 48-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter. However, Puget Sound was unable to carry that momentum into the locker room. The Pioneers (1-0) reached the end zone with less one minute before halftime.
Â
Washington scored again early the fourth quarter, punching in a one-yard carry to cap off a nine-play, 65-yard drive. Quarterback
Mason Binning was 2-for-3 for 31 yards during that touchdown drive.
Â
Washington finished the game with 116 rushing yards on 23 carries. He led the NWC in rushing yards last year (1,235).
Â
Max Arneklev led the Loggers in tackles (8), and he recovered a fumble that he forced.
Ezekiel Sayavong,
RJ Ma'ae, and
Tauhi Tupola each recorded a sack against the Pioneers.
Â
The Loggers make their season home debut next week (Sept. 10) against Lewis-Clark Valley.
