Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Cholakian nets three goals in 5-0 win over Piedmont

TACOMA, Washington – Ava Cholakian recorded her first-career hat-trick to lead the Puget Sound women's soccer team to a season-opening 5-0 win over Piedmont in Baker Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Cholakian scored her first goal against the Lions in the 39th minute, with Layla Santos assisting on the goal that gave Puget Sound a 2-0 lead.

She scored again in the 58th minute off a pass from Quincy Bento. In the 71st minute, Tess Carden assisted on Cholakian's third goal. Each of Cholakian's final two goals were from beyond 20 yards.

Cholakian is the first Logger to score three goals in a game since Gabbie Berg '20 did it against Pacific during the 2018 season.

Kalina Cordero got the scoring started Saturday in the 37th minute. Sofia Benedetti one-touched a corner kick from Carden, and Cordero finished the set play from there.

Zoe Fowler scored her first-career Logger goal in the 78th minute, allowing Santos to collect her second assist of the game.

Chaylea Tome needed just one save for the shutout, but it was a tough one. She made a diving stop when a Lions forward broke free for a quick breakaway.

The Loggers return to Baker Stadium Monday, Sept. 5, to host nationally-ranked No. 22 Emory.
