WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Kya Scott's impressive goal, rebounding off the crossbar, secured a 1-0 victory for the Puget Sound women's soccer team against Whitman College on Saturday afternoon. This win takes Puget Sound's record to 6-1-2 in the Northwest Conference.
The Logger defense showcased impressive intensity by holding off the Whitman Blues leading to a scoreless first half.
Rylee MacLennan made two shots on goal and the Logger's put out eight total shots compared to Whitman's three. Both teams showed tenacity and fair play with only two fouls on the Loggers and none for the Blues.
In the 64
th minute, Scott scored her seventh goal of the season and her first game-winner with the Loggers. The goal came from a shot by
Leila Hausia-Haugen that struck the crossbar and then fell at Scott's feet, enabling her to slot the ball into the bottom right corner of the net. The Loggers remained in contention, directing five shots on goal, while
Gianna Maldonado made three crucial saves, earning her second shutout of the season.
The Loggers are set to face off tomorrow, October 14th, in Spokane, Washington, against Whitworth University, with kickoff scheduled for noon.
