SPOKANE, Wash. – The
Logger women's soccer was held scoreless in 2-0 defeat at Whitworth University on Sunday afternoon.
With this loss, the Loggers now fall to 6-2-2 in Northwest Conference play. The Whitworth Pirates managed to score both of their goals in the first half of the match.
During the first half, the Loggers had a few promising scoring opportunities.
Zoe Witter saw the first chance with a high shot right in front of the goal. Then, minutes later
Zoe Fowler fired a shot off, straight toward the center of the goal, but it was skillfully saved by Kate Nelson. The Loggers started the game in foul trouble garnering 10 fouls in the first half.
In the 14
th minute, the Pirates took the lead off a quick blast to the opposite corner of the net from left field by Emma Ellerd assisted by Addison Dizard.
It was in the 43
rd minute that Whitworth doubled their advantage scoring off a free kick that took the ball into a mess of Pirates. Camryn Kuolt found the ball first and slotted it into the back of the net.
The Loggers registered 11 shots, four of which were on target, while the Pirates had 13 shots with five on goal.
Gianna Maldonado made three saves on the day.
The Loggers will return home to face Willamette University, October 21
st at noon, on East Field.
