SPOKANE, Wash. – Rhys Foote scored his second goal of the season, marking Puget Sound men's soccer second tie this weekend, as well as their second 1-1 draw with Whitworth University this season on Sunday afternoon.
The Loggers took the lead in the 15
th minute when Foote reversed the ball to the left side, where
Graham Hall advanced down the field and passed it to
Pema Globus. Simultaneously, Foote started crashing the penalty box, Globus crossed it in front of him as he took it to the bottom left corner of the net, stunning the goalkeeper. The Pirates defense held strong as the Loggers only managed two shots off, but still held the lead going into the half 1-0.
A minute into the second half, the Pirates equalize as Cole Friesen chipped the ball over the oncoming goalkeeper and into the back of the net. Later,
Ryan Saunders made an incredible save in the last six minutes following a free kick just outside the penalty box. Friesen shot it low and around the wall of Loggers, but Saunders' quick dive prevented the ball from reaching the net. Saunders recorded five saves on the day.
The Loggers had a total of seven shots, three of which were on goal, while the Pirates made 24 shot attempts, with six on target.
The Loggers will return home to face Willamette University on October 21
st at 2:30 p.m. at East Field.
