TACOMA, Wash. — The Puget Sound men's soccer team showcased a strong performance, with three different Loggers finding the back of the net, in a 3-1 victory over the Lewis and Clark Pioneers on Sunday afternoon at East Field.
The Pioneers opened up the scoring in the 8
th minute when
Ryan Saunders made an initial save off a shot from Ben Schwartz. Saunders deflected the ball up and into the crossbar, but he couldn't make the second save as Nadav Dicovski shot the ball from the air and into the net, giving the Pioneers an early lead.
The Loggers leveled the score in the 17
th minute after a corner kick delivered by
Marko Babiak was expertly headed into the back right pocket of the net by
Liam Elliott.
Fourteen minutes later, the Loggers seized the lead as a pass from
Rhys Foote slipped past the diving body of Emmett Olson and found
Etienne Polak, who drove it into the bottom left corner of the net.
Graham Hall secured an insurance goal by slotting the ball around five defenders and the goalie, finding the back corner of the net.
Overall, the Pioneers only made six shots while the Loggers made 23 shots, with seven shots on goal in the second half. The Loggers had eight corner kick opportunities compared to the Pioneers' single opportunity.
The Loggers will continue their season with their final home matches on October 28
th and 29
th at Baker Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on both days. Fans are invited to join a pregame ceremony honoring the seniors on Sunday.
