TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound Logger volleyball team celebrated six seniors in their final regular-season home match, but they couldn't secure a victory, falling to the Whitman College Blues in a disheartening 3-1 loss with set scores of 22-25, 25-17, 13-25, 20-25.
The Blues claimed the first set, starting the match with a 7-2 lead after Kenzie Martinez delivered five consecutive serves. Although the Loggers swiftly closed the gap to 13-14, they were unable to take the lead. The Blues notched 18 kills to the Loggers' 13, with Martinez contributing six kills in this set alone, while
Mia Fedota led the Loggers with four kills in the set.
The second set was dominated by the Loggers, with
Erin Fagan orchestrating an eight-serve run that led to a commanding 12-3 lead.
Avery Allemann followed with a five-serve run, from which the Blues couldn't recover.
Katelyn Chekian delivered five kills, and the Loggers totaled 11 kills in this set.
The Loggers suffered a setback in the third set, as Nicole Kelly hit for four kills and a block taking an 8-4 lead for the Blues. The Loggers made eight errors in the set and were stunned by a 20-9 Blues lead. Although the Loggers fought back, they couldn't mount a recovery, and the Blues secured a 25-13 victory.
In the fourth set, the Loggers attempted a comeback, keeping the game even with four tie scores. However, Navi Islam-Zwart's kills and a block propelled the Blues to an 18-13 lead they held onto, preventing the Loggers from forcing a decisive fifth set.
The Loggers struggled with a hitting percentage of .089, one of their lowest of the season. Fedota managed six kills on a .278 hitting percentage, while Chekian led the Loggers with nine kills and 15 digs.
Logan Winn provided 23 assists and contributed two blocks, and
Samantha Keightley led with 20 digs.
The loss followed a senior night ceremony honoring six volleyball seniors for their contributions to the Loggers:

This match marked the end of the regular home match season. The volleyball team now heads to Oregon for its final two matches of the regular season on Friday, Nov. 3, at Willamette University, and Saturday, Nov. 4, at Pacific University.
