Logger women's soccer play to a 2-2 tie against Linfield

TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound Women's soccer team finished in a 2-2 tie with the Linfield University Wildcats on Saturday afternoon during Homecoming Weekend.

The Wildcats' Riley Omonaka quickly found the net in the 4th minute capitalizing on a pass from Jocelyn Jacobs, which put the Loggers in a 1-0 deficit to start the match.

In the 16th minute, the Loggers leveled the score when Leila Hausia-Haugen provided a quick touch back to Zoe Witter, who confidently struck the ball into the top left corner of the net. It wasn't until the 37th minute that the Loggers took the lead. Zoe Fowler crossed the ball from the left side, bypassing multiple defenders, hitting the right post with just enough force to bounce off Ava Cholakian's forward momentum and take the ball into the goal.

After halftime, the Loggers held a 2-1 advantage, and both teams maintained defensive pressure. The Loggers only managed two shots on goal in the second half, compared to the five they made in the first, while the Wildcats only registered three shots on goal in the second half.

Linfield secured the tie in the 82nd minute when a penalty kick was awarded. Riley Omonaka confidently placed the ball in the top of the net, just inches away from the grasp of freshman goalkeeper Gianna Maldonado, who made five saves throughout the match.

The Logger women's soccer team will hit the road to face Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash., on Saturday, October 14th at noon, then Whitworth University in Spokane, Wash. on Sunday, October 15th at noon.
