WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Liam Ruttledge scored 28 points for the University of Puget Sound in a 104-95 loss to Schreiner University on Saturday afternoon.
Will Mathews got on the board first with a three-pointer, but Schreiner quickly responded with five points of their own. Puget Sound's biggest lead took place halfway through the first half at 31-26, then Schreiner tied it back up 33-33. The Loggers finished the half down 56-49.
Schreiner led by 11 points for most of the second half, but the Loggers refused to back down. Ruttledge scored 14 points in the second half and the Loggers caught up to Schreiner in the last few minutes only behind five points, 94-89. This was as close as the Loggers would get.
Dezman Baker went 6-for-6 on the free-throw line, and 2-for-3 on the floor, totaling 10 points.
Jaden Turner had 10 points off the bench,
Grant Erickson and
Taj Phillips both finished with eight assists. Mathews and
Kobe Smith each scored nine points. The Loggers shot for an impressive 53.1% in the loss.
The Loggers will return home Monday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. to face LeTourneau University.
