NEWBERG, Ore. – The women's basketball team kicks off the Northwest Conference season holding George Fox University to a 23% shooting in a 59-41 victory on Saturday night.
Kennedy Brown led the Loggers with 15 points while
Paige Gerhart followed close behind with 14. The Loggers took a 12-2 lead in the second quarter that the George Fox Bruins could never recover from.
The first quarter was evenly matched until the last few minutes when
Katie Minnehan scored consecutive two-pointers, while freshman
Paige Oh dropped in a three-pointer off the bench. The Loggers scored five times off second chance opportunities in the first half.
The Bruins stepped it up in the second half led by Jenna Lacey with seven points for George Fox. The Loggers didn't shoot as well with an 18.5% shooting rate, but a strong first half left them with a solid base that their defense could hold on to against the Bruins. The Bruins outshot the Loggers 10-5 in the fourth quarter, holding the Loggers to only 20 points in the second half. The Loggers managed six fast break opportunities that helped lead them to the final victory.
Minnehan's all-around performance included 10 rebounds, six steals and six points, while freshman
Autumn Hill also managed 10 rebounds, six points and four blocks for the Loggers.
The Loggers return home on Tuesday, Dec. 5 to face Pacific Lutheran University at 6 p.m. in Memorial Fieldhouse.
