Puget Sound 7, Linfield 6
A lack of daylight didn't slow down the Loggers as Puget Sound won the second game of the series, 7-6. The game began Sunday, was suspended at the end of the seventh inning due to darkness, and concluded Monday.
Â
The Loggers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Cody Hirano led off with a base hit, and he moved into scoring position on a wild pitch.
Makana Murashige stepped up with a base hit of his own that allowed Hirano to score the first run of the game.
Â
Murashige then scored from first on a double by
Nathan Blocher, and
Sean Murphy capped off the rally with a sac fly.
Â
Linfield came back to take a 6-4 lead through five innings, but the Loggers evened the score in the seventh.
Drew Kamihara led off with a double, and he advanced to third on a flyout by Hirano.
Dylan Joyce grounded out to plate Kamihara.
Â
The game then paused for coaches and umpires to discuss the setting sun, and all agreed to finish out the inning.
Â
Murashige was the first batter to the plate after that discussion, and he crushed a game-tying solo home run over the left-field fence.
Â
The game resumed in the eighth inning Monday. With the score still tied in the home half of the frame,
Davis Franklin drew a walk and moved into scoring position on a groundout by
Gabe Huante.
Â
Cooper Allen then stepped in as a pinch hitter, and he ripped a go-ahead single to centerfield.
Â
Joyce pitched the final two innings of the game to get his first win of the season.
Peter Fagan tossed 2.2 shutout innings out of the bullpen.
Â
Â
Puget Sound 3, Linfield 2
Cal Johnson and
Joe Schwab were sharp out of the bullpen as the Loggers closed out the series with a 3-2 win Monday.
Â
Once again, Puget Sound struck first.
Jack McCullar and
Davis Franklin led off the second inning with consecutive walks. Later in the inning,
Kahiau Teruya singled to score McCullar for the first run of the game. The very next batter –
Cody Hirano – also singled to score
William Gross and put the Loggers ahead by two.
Â
Linfield tied the game in the top of the fifth, but the Loggers wasted little in answering.
Nathan Blocher, McCullar, and
Davis Franklin drew consecutive walks to load the bases. Two batters, later, Gross earned a bases-loaded walk to put the Loggers ahead for good.
Â
Johnson allowed just one hit in three shutout innings, and
Joe Schwab locked down his first save of the season.
Â
Puget Sound is on the road this coming weekend to take on Pacific, March 11-12. Â
