PORTLAND, Ore. — Pema Globus, Graham Hall, and freshman Rhys Foote all found the net as the Loggers kicked off their season with an impressive 3-2 victory against Multnomah on Monday.
Foote quickly made his presence known in the 2nd minute by notching his first-career goal with the Loggers, securing the game-winning strike. However, the Multnomah Lions fought back and equalized in the 18th minute before taking the lead just six minutes later from a penalty kick by Camilo Vergara.
Just before halftime, Globus managed to level the score once again with a well-taken goal. In the 77th minute, Hall, a senior, scored the decisive goal to put the Loggers in the lead at 3-2. The Lions struggled to break through the sturdy Logger defense in the second half, thanks in large part to the exceptional performance of goalkeeper Andrew Matheny, who made 11 crucial saves.
Both teams accumulated numerous fouls during the match, resulting in four yellow cards and a red card for the Loggers, while the Lions retaliated with four yellow cards of their own.
The Puget Sound men's soccer team will return to Peyton Field in Baker Stadium for their next game, which will be played at home on Thursday, September 7th at 5 p.m.
