FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The women's basketball team suffered their first Northwest Conference loss, 77-71 against the Pacific University Boxers on Friday night after a six game winning streak .
With the setback, the Loggers fall to 2-1 in NWC, while Pacific improved and holds the same standing of 2-1 (NWC) on the young season.
Senior guard
Katie Minnehan scored a team-high 10 points shooting 5-of-7, plus six boards and three steals in the loss.
Paige Gerhart rebounded for a game-high 12 boards adding eight points to the score.
The Loggers took the lead in the first quarter by a slim advantage of 10-8, but continued at a disadvantage when shots weren't dropping. Both teams defense forced plays inside the three-point line, with final shooting percentages low, the Loggers with 32% and Boxers had 35.1%.
The Boxers kept pace with the Loggers with seven ties and 10 lead changes, until the Boxers took a 10-2 run and caught a nine-point lead halfway through the fourth period. The Loggers cut the deficit down to four points but weren't able to close the gap any further, finishing the game with free-throws.
Freshman
Autumn Hill contributed three blocks and shooting 2-of-3 from the floor.
The Loggers face Linfield University tomorrow, Jan. 6 at 4 p.m. in McMinnville, Oregon.
