TACOMA, Washington (October 13, 2024) - The Loggers (4-3-4, 3-1-4 NWC) looked to end their weekend with a W against the Whitman College Blues (8-2-2, 5-1-2 NWC), but will have to settle for another tie. The Blues arrived in Tacoma off a shocking 0-7 loss to Pacific Lutheran University and came ready to play. They outshot the Loggers 16-3, forcing goalkeeper
Ryan Saunders to make eight saves. The Loggers gave up eight corner kicks but the Blues were unable to convert any of the set pieces as many of them curled out of bounds past the goal.
Neither team was able to make it onto the scoreboard until the 82nd minute when Blues Jossue Tobar rocketed off a shot at the top of the 18. Saunders was able to get his fingers on the ball to momentarily keep the ball out of the net, but Blues Sawyer Valero was quick to follow up with a tap-in from the 6-yd box.
Energy between the two teams remained high for the rest of the game as the Loggers looked for ways to get beyond the Blues defense and Whitman attempted to maintain their lead. Off a long ball by
Riley Reisner,
Etienne Polak attempted to play
Rhys Foote inside the box, only for him to be fouled by the Blues.
Pema Globus stepped up to take the penalty kick and smashed it past the Blues keeper to tie up the game with less than three minutes left.
The Loggers kept pressing but unfortunately there wasn't enough time left on the clock and they walked away with one point. Next weekend the Loggers travel to Oregon to take on Willamette and Linfield for the second time this season. Kick offs are at 12:00pm on Saturday 10/19 and Sunday 10/20.
