SALEM, Oregon (October 19, 2024) - The Loggers (4-4-4, 3-2-4 NWC) started off strong, but eventually fell to the Willamette Bearcats (3-7-4, 3-4-3 NWC) 1-2.
The Loggers outshot the Bearcats 8-6 in the first half and forced five saves from their keeper. In the 11th minute,
Rhys Foote had a near miss, bouncing the ball off the crossbar. Just two minutes later, off a throw-in from
Luke Sloan, Foote was able to slide one past the Bearcats to bring the Loggers up 1-0. The Bearcats made five substitutions in an attempt to change the tide but were unable to get anything on the board.
At the start of the second half the momentum shifted towards the Bearcats. In the 54th minute they were awarded a penalty kick that, to the luck of goalkeeper
Ryan Saunders, hit the frame. Quickly after the Bearcats scored off a corner kick to tie the game 1-1. Both teams continued to fight for another goal but it was Willamette who reached the back of the net next. The Bearcats were able to get in behind the Logger defense and take the lead 2-1.
Yellow cards were handed out to
Kody Carmel,
Connor Barnes, and
Leif Anderson in the late stages of the game as the Loggers tried to make a comeback. The Loggers play again tomorrow 10/20 against Linfield at 12pm.
