MCMINNVILLE, Oregon (October 20, 2024) - The Loggers (4-4-5, 3-2-5 NWC) narrowly left McMinnville with a 1-1 tie against the Linfield Wildcats (2-11-2, 1-8-2 NWC).
The Wildcats scored only five minutes into the match and continued to threaten the Loggers for the next 85 minutes. They outshot the Loggers 23-3, testing
Ryan Saunders in goal. Saunders, however, stood tall and made 11 saves, a season-high, to conserve the tie.
Pema Globus came up big for the Loggers, scoring his second penalty kick, and fourth goal, of the season. Both goals were scored early on in the game, and tensions rose as the second half remained scoreless.
The Wildcats maintained 66% of the possession, which isn't surprising given the Loggers were down two players by the end of the game.
Rhys Foote received a red card near the end of the first half for violent conduct. The Loggers started the second half with 10 men, which later fell to nine as
Kody Carmel received a second yellow for unsporting behavior and was sent off. The scrappiness didn't stop there as four other yellow cards were handed out by the refs, three to the Loggers, including coaching staff.
With only six games left in the season, the Loggers look to turn things around this Wednesday as they take on Pacific Lutheran University at home. Kick-off is at noon at Baker Stadium.
