"King of Tacoma" Title Still Undecided

TACOMA, Washington (October 23, 2024) - The Loggers took on their cross-town rivals the Pacific Lutheran Lutes for a rematch earlier today, but the result was once again a 1-1 draw.

Most of the game was played in the Loggers half, but it took the Lutes a while to get anything going in the attacking third. The Lutes played calmly, passing around and looking for a slot, but the Loggers defense held their own. The Lutes held over 60% of possession but close attempts on goal only came in the last 10 minutes.

The Loggers looked better in the second half despite the Lutes continuing their control of the ball. Their passes in behind the Lutes defense were more intentional, creating a few close opportunities. In the 67th minute Sebastian Telles ended up past the goalkeeper with one defender left to beat, but wasn't able to get a shot off. The Lutes countered and deservedly landed on the scoreboard first. Off a long lob the Lutes made behind the Logger defense, a header by Lute Owen Bliskis ended up in the back of the net.

Things looked bleak for the Loggers, until Jackson Smith returned to the field. With less than two minutes to play the Loggers were fouled in the attacking third. Pema Globus stepped up to take the kick and targeted Smith who headed the ball into the side netting past the Lutes keeper to tie up the game.

The Loggers next face Lewis & Clark at home this Saturday, October 26th at 12:00pm.
