Women's Soccer Manages Last-Minute Win Against Willamette

SALEM, Oregon (October 19, 2024) - The Loggers (5-4-4, 5-1-3 NWC) earned their three points earlier today with a 2-1 win against the Willamette Bearcats (5-3-2, 6-4-4 NWC).

After a scoreless first half, the Loggers went up 1-0 with an unassisted goal by Zoe Fowler. In the 53rd minute, Fowler retrieved the ball from the Bearcats defense at the top of the box with time to set up for a shot to the upper 90, sneaking the ball over the Bearcats keeper. The Bearcats were able to get on the scoreboard just 15 minutes later with a long shot from the 23-yard line sent low past Gianna Maldonado.

Both teams went back and forth with shots, corner kicks, and free kicks, being taken on both sides. A total of 17 shots were taken by the Loggers compared to the Bearcats nine. Eight corner kicks, 17 fouls, and seven offsides were called throughout the game.

The game winner came from Kya Scott in the 88th minute of the game. Scott played a short corner to Leila Hausia-Haugen who passed the ball back to Scott at the edge of the 18. Scott chipped the ball past the keeper into the upper corner for her first goal of the season and securing the win for the Loggers.

This win improves the women to second in the conference with a record of 5-1-3. Their next match is tomorrow 10/20 against Linfield at 2:45pm.
