TACOMA, Washington (October 26, 2024) - Logger women's soccer (6-3-6, 6-1-5 NWC) fell behind in the 11th minute after an ambitious shot from Pioneer attacker Iris Stutzman snuck a slippery driven ball past goalkeeper
Gianna Maldonado. It proved to be one of two spoof goals for the Pioneers, who were left without much ;ower throughout the course of the game as the Loggers maintained possession a majority of the match.
Twenty minutes later, the Loggers scored twice in the span of two minutes to take a speedy lead over the Pioneers. First,
Leila Hausia-Haugen was granted a penalty kick that resulted from a sloppy bout of Pioneer defensive work; She drove her shot to the left, far out of the keeper's reach. Then, after a bit of pinball in front of the goal on the corner of the 6-yard-box,
Emily O'Neil hit the soccer equivalent of a fade away jumper, striking the ball as she faded at what could only be described as an inhuman angle. The ball trickled through defenders and past the outstretched keeper, putting the Loggers up by one. The first half ended 2-1, and the back of the net wasn't found again until the 80th minute, when
Kya Scott and Hausia-Haugen connected twice for a wall pass that resulted in an easy tap in for the cool & collected Scott
Lewis & Clark scored again in the 87th, the result of another pinball, but the Loggers held strong and commanded the final few minutes of the half, ending the game with 11 total shots to Lewis & Clark's three total shots.
The Loggers next play next week at home on Saturday, November 2nd, against Geroge Fox University. Kickoff is set for 2:45pm.
