NEWBERG, Oregon (October 6, 2024) - The Loggers (4-3-2, 3-1-2 NWC) were unable to top George Fox in a tight 0-1 conference contest earlier today.
The Bruins struck early, scoring off a header in the 10th minute of play. Despite 12 shots from the Loggers and 11 more from the Bruins, Connor Kong's goal was the only one recorded for the match. Puget Sound also had nine corner kick opportunities but facing a tough Bruins defense, the Loggers were unable to convert. Logger goalie
Luke Mamiya made seven saves to give the team a fighting chance.
Just after halftime, the first of many yellow cards was issued.
Hayden Miller,
Connor Barnes, and
Rhys Foote were the recipients of the Logger cards while Bruins Samuel Graves and Kilinahe Waring were issued yellows as well. A total of 32 fouls were called by the referees in an attempt to keep the chippiness at bay. The teams will meet again in Tacoma on Nov 2.
Puget Sound will return home this weekend to take on Whitman and Whitworth. Games will be Saturday Oct 12 and Sunday Oct 13, both with noon kickoffs.
