TACOMA, Washington (November 27, 2024) - Coach Kushiyama has a lot to be thankful for heading into the holiday weekend, beginning with Freshman Carmen Cruz's lights-out shooting in the Loggers' (2-5) 108-69 win today against the Northwest University Eagles (1-4).
In the first half alone, Cruz scored 20 points, double the amount of Northwest's highest scorer at that point in the game. She was 3-3 in FT and then 5-7 in 3PT attempts.
At the end of the match, Cruz recorded a whopping 36 points, went 9-13 in 3PT attempts, and 11-18 in FG attempts. With tonight's performance, and before NWC conference play has even begun, Cruz has set the University of Puget Sound Women's Basketball record for most 3-points in a single game by a single player (9).
The team as a whole also tied the all-time record for number of 3-pointers in a game, making 17 of their 37 attempts. Paige Oh and Addison Reardon recorded three and two 3-pointers, respectively. Autumn Hill came up big on defense, recording seven rebounds for the Loggers, and Cruz was close behind with six, sealing what has been the hands-down best game of her short college career. Natalia Sefair-Lopez, Claire Thompson, Emme Eisenman, and Autumn Hill were all perfect at the free-throw line.
The Loggers are excited to play again at home and continue their winning momentum this Saturday as they take on Hardin-Simmons, from Abilene, Texas. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00pm.
