Logger women's basketball falls to Willamette University 67-57

SALEM, Ore. – The Puget Sound women's basketball team fell to the Willamette University Bearcats in a 67-57 loss on Saturday night. The Loggers were limited to just seven points in the second quarter to give Willamette a 17-point lead at the half. With the loss, the Loggers move to 10-4 in the Northwest Conference this season.

The Loggers shot for just 29.7% in the end, while Willamette only managed to shoot for 38.9%. The Bearcats grabbed the first layup, then Katie Minnehan tied it up 2-2, one minute later, the closest the Loggers would come to a lead all game. Then, Willamette went for a seven-point run. The Loggers ended the Bearcats scoring run with a layup from Jordyn Reverman, the Bearcats continued to add pressure outscoring the Loggers 18-10 by the end of the first period. 

The Bearcats continued to push farther away in the second period, scoring 11 points in a row and holding the Loggers to just seven points. The Loggers shot for 15.6% in the first half, going 1-of-15 in the second period. 

The Loggers were at a 22-point deficit at 8:36 left in the third period that sparked a 13-2 run led by Paige Gerhart and closed out by Claire Thompson. In the final period, the Loggers reduced the deficit to just six points at 8:33 left in regulation. 

Autumn Hill impressed with eight offensive rebounds and 13 total rebounds adding five points and four assists. 

Paige Gerhart scored 14 points, adding seven rebounds and three steals, while Katie Minnehan went 4-for-5 from the floor for nine points and three steals. Emme Eisenman went 3-for-4 for seven points adding six rebounds in the loss. 

The Loggers will be back at home Friday, Feb. 16 to face Whitman College at 6 p.m. in Memorial Fieldhouse. Then, on Saturday, Feb. 17, the Loggers will face Whitworth University in their final match of the season, five seniors will be honored prior to the 4 p.m. tip-off.
