TACOMA, Wash. – Puget Sound Baseball finished off a three-game series sweep against Alfred State (NY) on Sunday with a 6-5 win. The win extends the Loggers' win streak to five games in non-conference play.
The win did not come easy for the Loggers with the Pioneers putting up a battle throughout the game. Puget Sound took an early lead of 3-1 coming out of the first inning with a double by
Cody Hirano to score
Jack McCullar and
Makana Murashige.
It wasn't until the top of the fifth that Alfred State was able to tie it up with two runs. The Pioneers were then able to move ahead in the rain soaked game in the sixth inning 3-4.

Logger bats ignited again in the bottom of the eighth inning with a series of hits at the plate, including RBIs by
Davis Franklin and
Sean Murphy. Puget Sound went into the ninth inning up by one at 5-4.
In the top of the ninth, the Pioneers gained its final run off a Puget Sound error. But it was not enough to extend the game securing the 6-5 win for the Loggers.
The Loggers scored in six runs off 10 hits.
Braden Blackwell won on the mound coming in at the top of the eighth inning and
Ethan Rattie finished with the save for the Loggers.
The Loggers will continue its non-conference schedule on Wednesday when they host Vassar College with a 2:00 p.m. first pitch. Northwest Conference play will begin on Saturday with a road trip to Willamette for a three-game series.
