SALEM, Ore. — Despite an electric fourth quarter showing, the Puget Sound Loggers women's lacrosse team's comeback efforts fell short on Monday afternoon, dropping a close 13-10 decision to Corban University.
Cat Schilli scored six points, Schilli has scored at least five points in three of the last four games.
Maya Sheklow followed with two goals and an assists. Bailey Furhman had four draw controls in the loss. The Corban Warriors made 31-of-31 clears and had 16 total draw controls.
The Corban Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first six minutes of play, but a free position attempt by Sheklow would add to the Loggers score. Schilli would score with 1:53 left in regulation, but the Warriors would finish the first period leading 5-2. The Warriors would outscore the Loggers 5-1 in the second quarter and take a vicious 10-3 lead.
In the second half, the Loggers maintained a strong defense holding the Warriors to just one goal and evening it out with a man-up Logger goal. The Loggers found their footing in the fourth with a high-scoring outing. Schilli sparked the comeback efforts with four goals, while
Maya Sheklow and
Maggie Ott each grabbed one with two goals in the last minute of play. The Loggers battled to catch the 10-3 lead the Warriors established in the first half, but couldn't stretch the time enough and came up just short in the 13-10 decision.
In the cage,
Phoebe Crowther played all 60 minutes with four ground balls and eight saves in the loss.
The Puget Sound Loggers make the quick turnaround for a midweek non-conference road battle with Illinois Wesleyan at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon on Thursday, March 14. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
