TACOMA, Wash. — The Puget Sound softball team won the first game of a two-game series with a score of 3-2, then
Abby Pearce smashed a two run homerun in the second game, but the Loggers still lost 5-3 against SUNY Oneonta on Monday afternoon.
Aislinn O'Reilly led in the first game with a double and a two-man RBI, while
Kimora Phillips followed with three hits and one run on the day.
Jessica Moore scored two runs on two hits over the two-game period.
The first game went scoreless until the Loggers ended the drought in the bottom of the fifth.
Brenna Flannery got the first hit, followed by a single up the middle for Phillips to score in Flannery, then O'Reilly swung for a double to force the Oneonta Red Dragons to make a pitching change and take a 3-0 lead.
The Red Dragons scored a homerun in the next inning, adding two runs to their score, but not enough to equalize. The Loggers were unable to score in the sixth inning, but then they sandwiched a strikeout between two fly balls to end the game in victory.
The Loggers had seven hits, while the Red Dragons only had four hits.
Nyomi Estrada pitched seven innings for 11 strikeouts on 24 batters.
In the second game, the Loggers had the upper hand scoring the first three runs in the second inning after Pearce homered to left field. When the Red Dragons took to the field they drove in two runs off two single base-hits.
The Loggers kept the game under control in the next inning, but the Red Dragons scored one more in the fifth inning, taking the lead in the sixth off a base hit. Oneonta loaded the bases, but a fly ball to left field would end the inning before the Red Dragons could score any more until the seventh inning. In the seventh, Oneonta scored one run on three hits and take the victory 5-3.
The Loggers had four hits, while Oneonta had 12 hits and five RBI's.
The Loggers will head to Oregon, on March 23 and 24, for consecutive doubleheaders against George Fox University (7-5) this weekend.
