Johnson scored two homeruns in split double header at George Fox

NEWBERG, Ore. – Puget Sound Softball took to the road for its second Northwest Conference series against the Bruins of George Fox.  The Loggers came from behind in game one to take a 10-9 win, before narrowly falling in the game two of the day's double header by a score of 5-6.

Game 1:  Puget Sound 10, George Fox 9

Mikayla Johnson's 3-RBI home runs in the first and seventh innings bookended the win for the Loggers. Coming off Johnson's first three-run blast in the first inning, Puget Sound stayed ahead of George Fox until the fourth inning when the Bruins went ahead by five runs off a six-run flurry. 

After George Fox added another run to the scoreboard in the sixth, the game again took a turn in the Loggers favor. Johnson got the Loggers going in the top of the seventh inning with her second home run of the game following RBIs by Claire Besancon and Aislinn O'ReillyBrenna Flannery then finished off the seven-run rally with a double allowing the final two runs to cross the plate. Puget Sound was able to silence the Bruins in the bottom of the ninth securing the 10-9 win. 

Alison Madia earned the Logger win from the circle allowing just one run. For the game, Puget Sound had 10 RBIs, off of 11 hits. 
 
Game 2:  Puget Sound 5, George Fox 6

In game two of the double header, the game stayed scoreless through four innings. The Loggers were the first to strike in the top of the fifth off an RBI single by Claire Besancon. The Bruins responded quickly, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth. 

In the sixth inning, with two runners on base, Hope Fleischman captured her first home run of the season adding three runs to the Loggers score to take the lead 4-3.  George Fox tied the game back up with a single run in the bottom of the sixth. 

Going into the final inning, Puget Sound needed to get on the board to force the Bruins back to the plate.   After two wild pitches, the Loggers were able to equalize the game 5-5.   George Fox was then able to earn the win off a home run in the bottom of the inning. 

The Loggers had balanced play at the plate with seven players contributing to the eight-hit game. Puget Sound will stay put to finish the series on Sunday against the Bruins in a double header. 

The Loggers move to 5-9 on the season and 3-3 in NWC play and return to its home field for a four-game series against Linfield on April 6 and 7.
