Tacoma, Wash. – Puget Sound baseball opened its home 2024 schedule on Sunday, splitting the doubleheader against Bethany Lutheran University with the scores of 5-6 and 9-3.

The Vikings got on the scoreboard early with two runs in the top of the second inning off a Logger error. Puget Sound quickly made up some ground with its first run of the game when
Aidan Sullivan hit a double to drive home
Jack McCullar. At the fourth inning, Sullivan again showed some power with a home run tying the score at 2-2.
The Loggers got on the board on again in the bottom of the fifth when the first two batters on based with consecutive walks. David Franklin flied out to center field to advance Josh Carrillo to third. Bethany's throwing error allowed Carrillo to score putting the Loggers up 3-2.
Drew Kamihara was then also able to come across the plate off a wild pitch. The inning finished with the score with Puget Sound up 4-2.
It wasn't until the eighth inning that the Vikings overtook the lead with three runs scored off of three hits and one error. Puget Sound wasn't able to respond leaving the score at 4-5. In the ninth inning, Bethany got its final run of the game off a Logger error. In the bottom of the ninth, with one out and one on base, Puget Sound was able to score off a single by
Sean Murphy. Two strikeouts at the plate ended the game with a loss at 5-6.
Loggers finished with five hits, and three errors, with pitcher
Cal Johnson taking the loss on the mound.

In game two against the Vikings, Puget Sound came out swinging to take the win off a nine-run, 13-hit performance.
Bethany once again got on the board first with two runs in the in the first inning, followed by another run in the second. The Loggers were held with no runs until the bottom of the fourth inning when consecutive doubles by
Preston Crockett and
Brock Makishima got the first run across the plate. With bases loaded, a walk for
Drew Kamihara allowed the innings second run to scored.
The Loggers jumped in the lead in the fifth with three additional runs off a single by Makishima scoring one, and a double by
Gio Parascondola to put two more on the scoreboard. In the sixth, the Loggers extended its lead with three more runs when Parascondola's double earned three RBIs. Puget Sound put up its final run of the game in the eighth inning with a double by
Cody Hirano.
Parascondola finished the game with five RBIs, off of three hits. Pitcher
Joe Schwab took the win and is now 1-0 on the season.
The Loggers move to 3-7 for the season and finish the final game of the three-game series Monday, March 4, at 2:30 p.m.
