TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound baseball's home opening weekend ended in a 10-0 victory after the run rule went into effect in the seventh inning on Monday at Logger Field. The Loggers went 2-1 against Bethany Lutheran and move to 4-7 overall.
The Puget Sound batters dominated the game, doubles from
Kellen Krebs and
Preston Crockett, a triple from
Davis Franklin, and a home run for freshman
Brock Makishima. Crockett scored one run off one hit and added two RBI's in the win. Franklin scored in two teammates off two hits, but never saw home plate for himself.
Pitching five innings for the Loggers,
Henry Baker won his first game of the season, 1-0, allowing no runs and striking out three batters.
In the first inning batting the Loggers went three up, three down, while in the second inning the Loggers started to heat up.
Aidan Sullivan and
Gio Parascondola grabbed the first two outs,
Makana Murashige singled in between and advanced on
Kellen Krebs hit by pitch.
Nathan Blocher singled to score in Murashige, while
Cody Hirano singled and scored Krebs. Crockett followed suit with a double adding two RBI's to his statistics. Franklin ended the inning with a fly ball to centerfield.
The Loggers scored again in the third inning after
Kellen Krebs doubled and scored in Sullivan. Krebs stole home in the fifth to make the score 6-0, but it was a triple from Franklin that scored in two more.
The game continued with amazing defensive prowess and accuracy, but it wasn't until the top of the sixth inning that the Bethany Lutheran Vikings even got close. The Loggers tripped over a few errors leading to loaded bases for the Vikings, a strike-out swinging ended the inning.
Makishima scored himself in on a home run to left field in the seventh inning and the final run that ended the game early was scored by Blocher off a fielders choice hit by
Kahiau Teruya.
Logger baseball will be back on Logger Field, March 9, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to face Alfred State College in a three-game series that will end on Sunday, March 10.
