Smith Continues to Lead Loggers to Success

TACOMA, Washington (September 21, 2024) - Freshman striker Jackson Smith has once again led the Loggers (2-2, 1-0 NWC) to a win, this time in their first Northwest Conference matchup of the season. The Loggers bested Linfield 2-3 on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma this afternoon, using momentum from their 5-1 win against Multinomah to once again have a strong showing at home.

It only took until the eighth minute for the Loggers - Smith, nonetheless - to secure the lead. The Loggers would continue to command the rest of the game, even though Linfield was able to net two goals of their own. The next goal for the Loggers was just ten minutes after after Smith's, scored by Rhys Foote, and assisted by Smith. Smith also recorded a second assist when Etienne Polak scored in the 78th minute to put the Loggers up 3-1.

The Maroon & White were able to consistently far outplay the Wildcats, out-shooting them 20-9; six of the Loggers' shots were on target to the Wildcats' five shots on target.

The Logger Men's Soccer games have been consistently successful throughout the preseason, and now this first conference matchup, but the excitement often goes far beyond goals - in this last match, there were a total of five cautions issued, three to UPS and two to Linfield. Despite the yellow cards, Smith provides a continued source of energy and it often feels as if Puget Sound is running circles around their opponents.

The Loggers next take on the Willamette Bearcats tomorrow, September 22nd at home, with kickoff slated for 12:00pm.
