PORTLAND, Oregon (January 18, 2025) – In a game with seven lead changes, the Loggers (5-10, 4-2 NWC) were fell 73-67 to the Lewis & Clark Pioneers (4-11, 1-5 NWC), marking their second conference loss.
In a tight first quarter, the Loggers edged out the Pioneers 17-14. To start the second quarter, the Loggers went up 27-16 after a layup by
Cayton Smith. They held off the Pioneers until two minutes remained in the half, when Lewis & Clark went on a 10-0 run to pull within two. The Loggers led 37-35 going into halftime.
The Pioneers tied the game at the start of the third quarter with a pair of free throws, then went on an 11-5 run to take a 50-45 lead. The Loggers regained the lead with points from
Carmen Cruz and
Addison Reardon, but the Pioneers quickly went back up by five. The rest of the game remained close, but the Loggers were unable to stop the Pioneers' offense.
The Loggers outshot the Pioneers 36-19 from beyond the arc, but made only 33% of their attempts. The Pioneers, however, were 18 for 21 from the line, generating more free points than the Loggers, which contributed to their success.
Carmen Cruz led the Loggers with 22 points and four rebounds, her second-highest scoring game of the season.
Autumn Hill followed with eight points and 11 rebounds.
The Loggers travel to Oregon again next weekend to take on George Fox and Willamette. Games are Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 6 p.m.
