WALLA WALLA, Washington (Friday, January 3) - Logger Basketball (5-4, 0-1 NWC) traveled over the mountains this weekend to take on the Whitman Blues (2-7, 1-0 NWC) in Walla Walla. Despite a strong effort, the Loggers fell 55-73.
Puget Sound led Whitman in rebounds, 41-39, but the Blues proved more effective at converting possessions into points, holding the lead for 96.2% of the game. The Loggers entered halftime trailing by 12 points and fought to close the gap in the second half, being outscored by just six points. However, the first-half deficit proved too significant to overcome, especially given the Loggers' struggles from beyond the arc. Puget Sound made just two three-pointers compared to Whitman's 11-for-29 performance.
Ian Cook led the Loggers in scoring with 13 points, followed by Will Pohland with 10 points. Every active Logger contributed at least one point, a distinction not mirrored by the Blues.
The Loggers aim to bounce back tomorrow as they face the Whitworth Pirates (9-1, 0-1 NWC). Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., followed by the women's game at 6:00 p.m.
