WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Puget Sound picks up a big win over the Whitman Blues, finishing the weekend with back-to-back shutouts.
How it Happened
The Loggers got on the front foot early, picking up two corner kicks in a row in the third and fourth minutes.
Kate Short logged the first shot, missing just high following a corner.
Leila Hausia-Haugen put the first shot on target in the fifth minute, as the Loggers continued their ever-present attack.
Mazy Wright and
Hayden Goodman both got in on the action in the first half, picking up a shot apiece. Goodman's shot was saved by the Blues' keeper, as the game remained scoreless after the first 30 minutes.
Short, who scored two goals against Linfield last weekend, notched her fifth of the season in the 31st minute.
Zoe Witter played a great ball into the right side of the box, finding Short, who buried the ball into the back of the net. A final shot by Whitman as time expired concluded the first half, as the Loggers broke their scoreless streak with a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Puget Sound continued to play well in the second half. They started to apply some pressure in the 57th minute, as three shots in two minutes ensued. Witter missed just high,
Sydney Boyd had a shot saved, and Short hit the ball over the crossbar.
The rest of the half, the Logger defense remained strong, not allowing a single shot on goal. Goalkeeper
Gianna Maldonado kept her second clean sheet of the weekend, as the Loggers walked away from the Whits undefeated. They officially finish the first half of Northwest Conference play today, and remain undefeated.
