NEWBERG, Ore. -- In a back-and-forth game with the Bruins, Puget Sound finished the game victorious with a 3-2 win over George Fox.
How it Happened
If you blinked, you would have missed it. The Loggers got on the board early as
Rhys Foote found
Jackson Smith just 14 seconds into the match. Smith found a perfect pocket in the Bruins' back line, and Foote played a great ball between defenders to give the team an early 1-0 lead.
Foote continued to be a menace, firing two more shots on goal within the first 10 minutes of the match. The Bruins then tied the game up at one apiece in the 21st minute and scored again in the 33rd to make it 2-1 at halftime. Â
As the game went on, it got a bit more physical. A total of six yellow cards were given out in the second half, but the Loggers pressed on. Following a corner kick in the 69th minute,
Ethan Lu found
Sebastian Telles to tie the game up at two-all.Â
Just eight minutes later, Foote came up clutch. The Loggers won a free kick just outside the 18-yard box, where Foote has been dangerous from all season. He fired an absolute rocket to the top-left corner, placing a perfect free kick to make it 3-2.Â
The Bruins went on to fire off a number of shots towards the end of the match, but couldn't find the back of the net. Foote's goal proved to be the difference maker, giving the Loggers a much-needed bounce-back win over the Bruins.Â
Top Performers
Foote finished the day with a goal, an assist, and a team-high five shots.
Parker Norris played a full 90 minutes in goal for the first time all season, making an important save to help the Loggers to victory.Â
Coach's Thoughts
"We had a great start to the game," said Logger head coach
Steve Mohn. Scoring a goal 14 seconds into the game was a nice bonus. Going down 2-1 at half wasn't where we wanted to be, but it sparked a great team performance in the second half. It was a hard-fought win and well-earned 3 points. We'll enjoy it for a bit, but we need to now shift our focus to our game on Sunday at Lewis and Clark."Â
What Happens Next
The Loggers travel to Portland, Oregon to take on the Lewis and Clark Pioneers. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:45 pm on October 19th.Â
