Loggers Battle Elements in 23-48 Loss to George Fox

NEWBERG, Ore. -- After getting off to a hot start, the Loggers face the elements in the second half, as Goerge Fox takes this one 48-23.

How it Happened
The Loggers got off to a great start, forcing a punt on the Bruins' first drive of the day. Coming off their best defensive performance of the year, the Loggers continued their good play in the first quarter.

On the first offensive play of the day, the Loggers' starting quarterback, Hayden Teeter, went down on the play. Two rushes by Dre Dukes weren't enough to get the Loggers the first down, and they had to punt the ball away. Thomas Goeglein had a great one, though, booting the ball 58 yards to the George Fox eight-yard line.

Goeglein's punt immediately turned into points, as the Loggers forced a safety on the very next play. GFU quarterback JJ Leman fumbled the ball, jumping on it in the end zone to avoid a Logger touchdown. On the ensuing kickoff, Fox kicked the ball out of bounds, setting the Loggers up at midfield to start their drive.

Luckily, Teeter was able to return to the game. He led the Loggers down the field, including a 41-yard pass to Joe Gallagher on 4th down to put the Loggers at the Bruin 1-yard line. Although Dre Dukes was stopped three times in a goal-line stand, he punched it in on fourth down to give the Loggers a 9-0 lead.

Fox scored on the very next drive, going 75 yards in 13 plays to punch in a score. The Loggers got some momentum on their next offensive possession, as Gallagher hauled in another 20+ yard reception to get the Loggers to midfield. A couple of plays later, Teeter found Darius Bailey for his first touchdown of the day, giving the Loggers a 16-7 lead.

In a sneaky move, the Loggers tried an onside kick to fool the Bruins' special teams unit. Fox was keen enough to seek it out and got the ball on their own 48. Two plays later, the score was 16-14, as the Bruins found the end zone.

After back-and-forth possessions, the Bruins kicked a 24-yard field goal, as the Loggers headed into halftime down 16-17.

Coming out of halftime, a Teeter interception, and a Bruin touchdown made the score 24-16. The Loggers struggled to find offensive momentum, as Fox started to run away with the game. Another touchdown and field goal pushed the score to 34-16, but the Loggers weren't done yet. They just needed one play to go 75 yards, as Isaac Tran caught a deep pass and took it to the house. The Loggers had some hope, heading into the fourth quarter, only down two possessions.

Two more touchdowns for the Bruins concluded the scoring in the fourth, though, as the Loggers just missed on a couple of chances. They head home with some positive takeaways, leaving Fox with a 48-23 final score.

Top Performers
Gallagher had 8 receptions for 113 yards, and Tran had 5 receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown as well. Peyton Damasiewicz led the team in tackles, racking up 13, including 1.5 for loss, and a sack. Joseph Earl picked up the Loggers' lone interception, and Jacob Gomez finished with a forced fumble.

Coach's Thoughts
"Our inability to sustain drives on 3rd down and get off the field on third down on defense really hurt us today. Credit to George Fox on making those plays. We will get back to work Monday for a great opportunity against Pacific at home."

What Happens Next
The Loggers have a two-game homestand, starting with a game against Pacific University at 1:00 next Saturday, November 1st.
