Gallagher Breaks Receiving Record in 52-35 Loss to Pacific

TACOMA, Wash. -- Joe Gallagher breaks the Puget Sound All-Time receptions record against Pacific, passing AJ Johnson in the Loggers' 52-35 loss to the Boxers.

How it Happened
Hayden Teeter and the Puget Sound offense got off to a great start to the game. They marched the ball down the field, going 76 yards in 10 plays, as Teeter found Isaac Tran for the first touchdown of the game. His 32-yard pass on fourth down was the highlight of the drive, as the Loggers began their day going straight into a strong wind.

Despite the solid drive, Pacific took back the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown. A couple of drives later, following a missed Boxer field goal, the Loggers drove down the field yet again. This time, Teeter found Darius Bailey, who took the ball to the house on a 46-yard touchdown reception. This gave the Loggers a 7-point lead heading into the second quarter.

The Boxers found the end zone on the next drive, but missed the extra point as the Loggers maintained their lead. A three-and-out led to another Boxer touchdown, making it 20-14 in favor of the visitors. Dre Dukes found the back of the end zone on the ensuing drive, getting the Loggers right back into the game. A solid defensive stop on fourth down ended the half, as the Loggers took a 21-20 lead into halftime.

The third quarter was a back-and-forth battle between the two squads, as they kept trading touchdowns. The Boxers kicked the half off with a touchdown, and the Loggers then bounced back with one of their own. This first offensive possession for the Loggers was where Gallagher made history.

The Junior standout wide receiver caught a 7-yard pass on the first play of the drive, surpassing AJ Johnson for the most receptions in Puget Sound history. Two plays later, Gallagher had a 62-yard house call, taking the ball in stride and speeding past Pacific's secondary for the score. Gallagher now has 280 career receptions, breaking the previous record of 285.

Gallagher found the end zone for a second time towards the end of the third quarter, giving the Loggers a 35-34 lead heading into the fourth. Pacific marched down the field and made it 40-35, and then a failed fourth-down conversion led to yet another Pacific touchdown. The Boxers tacked on one more to make it 52-35, as the Loggers narrowly missed it in this one.

Top Performers
Gallagher finished with 10 receptions for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Teeter went 29-46, passing for 353 yards and 4 touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, Peyton Damasiewicz and Dylan Ott both finished with 10 total tackles.

Coach's Thoughts
"We are a team that is on the cusp of a breakthrough performance," said Logger head coach Jeff Thomas. "There are so many excellent individual performances taking place, but we need to piece together 4 full quarters to come out victorious. Congratulations to Joe Gallagher on breaking the career receiving record - that won't be his last accolade and record as a Logger. We're going to continue to compete and find ways to improve with two weeks left in the season."
