Loggers Drop Game 1-0 to Willamette Bearcats

TACOMA, Wash. --  The Loggers play hard, but ultimately drop their game to Willamette 1-0.

How it Happened
The Loggers drop their second straight match as a rainy day in Tacoma made scoring difficult. The rain started to come down in the first half, as the Loggers worked on controlling the ball and creating good opportunities.

Their first good opportunity came in the 12th minute, as Jackson Smith fired a shot on goal to open up the offensive attacks for Puget Sound. After a corner kick fizzled out, Vinny Self put a shot just over the crossbar in the 16th minute. Luke Mamiya made a couple of good saves, and Smith had another shot saved in the 35th minute.

The first goal and only goal of the game came with just 16 seconds left in the first half, as Willamette found the back of the net to shock the Loggers before halftime.

The teams then played a control game in the second half, as the elements made it difficult to find open shots. The rain started to come down harder, as the Loggers battled to get any shots off. Smith fired two more shots, with one being on goal, and Alonzo Flores-Barajas had the best opportunity in the 88th minute, nearly equalizing late.

The team couldn't find the back of the net, though, as the Bearcats took a 1-0 victory.

Top Performers
Smith was the primary force on offense, recording four shots with three being on goal. Parker Norris also had a second-half shutout, limiting the damage and keeping the Loggers in the game.

Coach's Thoughts
"It was a frustrating result. Conceding a goal with 16 seconds left in the first half was certainly a blow," said Logger head coach Steve Mohn. "However, I thought we played well in the second half and gave ourselves a strong chance to get back into the game. Moving forward, we need to find ways to create more scoring opportunities and be clinical when we get there."

What Happens Next
The Loggers head to Forest Grove, Oregon to face the Pacific Boxers on Saturday, November 1st.
