LA GRANDE, Ore. — A dominant second quarter proved to be the difference as Puget Sound outpaced Eastern Oregon 15-11 on Saturday at Community Stadium.
Maggie Ott and
Cat Schilli each netted five goals for the Loggers (2-0), while
Michaela Chen added four to propel Puget Sound to its second win of the season. Ott also contributed an assist.
Eastern Oregon (0-4) was paced by Jade McCoy's five-goal effort, while Claire Bever added three scores of her own. The Mountaineers held a 5-4 lead after the first quarter, but a scoreless second frame saw Puget Sound rattle off seven unanswered goals to take control of the game.
Puget Sound outshot Eastern Oregon 36-21 and won the battle on the draw, securing 16 draw controls to the Mountaineers' 14. Despite a strong 10-save performance from Eastern Oregon goalkeeper Addi Bomberger, the Loggers' offensive pressure proved too much down the stretch.
The Loggers return home next week looking to extend their unbeaten start versus Lewis & Clark College, while the Mountaineers remain in search of their first victory.
