Loggers Stumble in Second Half, Fall to Pioneers 13-4

TACOMA, Washington (March 2, 2025) – The University of Puget Sound (1-1) lacrosse team hosted their home opener on Sunday but fell to the undefeated Lewis & Clark Pioneers (3-0) 13-4.

The Pioneers struck first, but the Loggers quickly responded as Cat Schilli found the back of the net to even the score. Just two minutes later, Michaela Chen, assisted by Pier Pomeroy, gave Puget Sound the lead to close out the first quarter.

The back-and-forth battle continued in the second quarter, with both teams netting two goals apiece. Maggie Ott and Amity Humphrey each tallied a goal to keep the Loggers in front. Despite the tight scoreline, the Pioneers held an edge in offensive pressure, outshooting the Loggers 15-6 in the first half. Goalkeeper Phoebe Crowther played a key role in keeping Puget Sound in the game, making nine saves before halftime.

Momentum shifted dramatically in the second half as Lewis & Clark erupted for 10 unanswered goals. While the Loggers executed several successful clears, they struggled to contain the Pioneers' attack, led by a trio of dominant scorers.

By the final whistle, the Pioneers had outshot the Loggers 32-8, with Puget Sound's 23 turnovers proving costly in the outcome.

The Loggers will look to bounce back next Saturday at 1 p.m. when they host the Pacific Lutheran Lutes, kicking off a stretch of home games against non-conference opponents.
