TACOMA, Washington (March 8, 2025) – In a high-scoring showdown featuring 20 goals and 44 shots, the Puget Sound Loggers emerged victorious, defeating the Pacific Lutheran Lutes (1-2) by a score of 12-8.
The action started early, with seven goals in the first quarter alone. Less than two minutes into the game, the Lutes struck first to take a 1-0 lead. However, the Loggers quickly responded, netting three consecutive goals through the efforts of Maggie Ott, Cat Schilli, and Pier Pomeroy, assisted by Amity Humphrey and Rebekah Morales. Pacific Lutheran's Katrina Moran kept the Lutes in contention, completing a hat trick before the end of the quarter. A late Lutes goal gave them a 4-3 edge after one.
The Lutes carried their momentum into the second quarter, scoring less than a minute in to extend their lead to 5-3. But the Loggers took control from there. Schilli, Pomeroy, Humphrey, and Michaela Chen led a dominant surge, tallying seven unanswered goals to put Puget Sound ahead 9-5 at halftime.
Despite generating eight shots in the third quarter, the Loggers managed just one goal. Meanwhile, the Lutes remained persistent, closing the gap to within three goals with three minutes left in the fourth. However, a clutch goal by Ott in the final minute secured the Loggers' victory.
Both teams committed 26 turnovers and evenly split draw controls, but the Loggers capitalized on free position opportunities, scoring six times off fouls. Schilli and Pomeroy each recorded hat tricks, while Humphrey and Chen contributed two goals and an assist apiece. Ott added two goals, and Morales provided two assists.
The Loggers are back in action tomorrow against Linfield, with the game set for 1:00 p.m. in McMinnville.
