MCMINNVILLE, Oregon (February 7, 2025) – Puget Sound (7-13, 6-5 NWC) defeated Linfield (16-4, 7-4 NWC) 54-47 on Friday night, pulling away in the second and third quarters to hold off the Wildcats. This win gives the Loggers a winning conference record, with five games left in the season.
Linfield jumped out to an early lead, going on a 7-0 run to start the game. The Loggers tied up the game 12-12 by the end of the first quarter on a jumper by
Savannah Pohl. Puget Sound took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 16-8 to head into halftime with a 28-20 lead.
The Loggers extended their lead to 15 points with a 9-2 run in the third quarter. Linfield responded by cutting the deficit in half, getting within seven points. However, both teams scored evenly in the fourth quarter, allowing Puget Sound to maintain its advantage.
Both teams struggled to maintain possession, with 36 turnovers disrupting the flow of the game. Led by
Emme Eisenman with 11 rebounds and three steals, the Loggers defense limited Linfield to 25% shooting from the field and 18% from the arc. Shots didn't seem to fall this evening for either team, but Eisenman and
Carmen Cruz were able to score 10 points each to lead Puget Sound to victory.
The Loggers next matchup is tomorrow, Feb 8, at 6 p.m. against Pacific University.
