Woodard, Chen Lead Loggers in Battle Against Pirates

TACOMA, Wash. -- The Loggers showed plenty of heart on Saturday afternoon, but ultimately fell to Whitworth, 18–3.

Freshman Hailey Woodard continued to shine in her first season with the Loggers, putting Puget Sound on the board with a strong unassisted goal in the first quarter. Woodard later added another in the fourth, capping a determined individual effort against a tough Whitworth defense.

Senior Michaela Chen also made her mark, scoring early in the third quarter to give the Loggers momentum out of halftime. Chen's leadership and composure have been key assets for Puget Sound all season, and her impact was felt once again today with four draw controls and a caused turnover.

Despite the final scoreline, the Loggers fought hard throughout the contest. Goalie Phoebe Crowther posted 11 saves and several blocks, keeping Puget Sound in the game against a Whitworth squad that fired 38 shots overall.

The Loggers won't have to wait long to get back on the field — they return to action tomorrow for a senior night celebration and their final game of the season. They will take on the Whitman Blues at 1 p.m. at Baker Stadium.
